About Tigiraffe

Tigiraffe began in 1992 at the Labadi Trade Fair Centre in Accra, Ghana. After seeing artisans and fashion designers struggle in Ghana for global reach.  We set out to connect their craftsmanship with markets abroadBack then, we were working out of a shared space, testing different locally sourced fabrics like kente and even experimenting with jeans. But nothing quite fit — the materials were either too expensive or didn’t sell well.

Then came a simple, unconventional idea: used flour sacks.

At first glance, these sacks — coated with hardened flour and stiffened by moisture — didn’t look like much. But we saw potential. By carefully unseaming the bags, soaking, scrubbing, and drying the cotton fabric, we gave them new life. Through hand-dyeing and detailed craftsmanship, we recycled them and they transformed into unique, vibrant children’s clothing — made with love and full of character.

For nearly two decades, this upcycled cotton, originally used in flour mills, was durable, sustainable, and 100% natural. When the quality of that cotton declined, we transitioned to calico, continuing our tradition of ethical, sustainable fashion.

Because Tigiraffe is more than children’s clothing – it’s a movement to unite markets, develop communities, and invest profits into schools and infrastructure.

Our Mission

Today, Tigiraffe is more than just a kids’ clothing brand — it’s a movement.

We believe in preserving traditional Ghanaian techniques like hand tie-dyeing, while promoting sustainable fashion that’s affordable, eco-friendly, and proudly made in Ghana.

We are deeply committed to giving back to our community. At the heart of our mission is our investment in youth empowerment:

  • We provide free education and skills training to young women in Ghana
  • We offer employment opportunities within our factory
  • We mentor and support their long-term development, helping them build careers in fashion, design, and production

As we grow, we’re committed to reinvesting in Ghana’s creative economy, supporting education, and helping to build the infrastructure needed for local artisans and makers to thrive.

Our journey started with a single idea — and we’re just getting started.

We are actively partnering with brands, organisations, and individuals who share our vision — to make ethical fashion, community empowerment, and sustainability the standard, not the exception. Together, we’re building a stronger, more inclusive future for fashion — one that starts in Ghana and reaches the world.
